Project Description

Dame Elizabeth Rosemond “Liz” Taylor, February 27, 1932 Elizabeth Taylor was the Queen of Hollywood, with a career spanning six decades. She was as famous for her colourful personal life, which included eight marriages and seven husbands, as she was for her acting career.
Elizabeth Taylor is considered one of the last, if not the last major star, to have come out of the old Hollywood studio system. And not just any studio, the top of the heap: MGM. Her early movies, as a child in the early 1940s, starred such Hollywood luminaries as Orson Welles and Spencer Tracy. She quickly grew up, however, and by 1950 was, if not starring in, assuming major responsibilities for the success of motion pictures she appeared in. Then with major roles onscreen, came worldwide attention off-screen, most notably due to a succession of famous and rich husbands and a series of health crises throughout her life. To put it simply, Elizabeth Taylor has lived a life far more exciting and dramatic than any movie she’s ever appeared in and probably most any other movie you could name. She’s known internationally for her beauty, especially for those violet eyes, with which she captured audiences early on in her youth and has kept the world hooked on ever since. She’s won the Oscar twice and she’s earned her place in and out of the sun.
There is intense speculation that Elizabeth Taylor had been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes although she never officially commented upon this before 2009 when she did actually refuted the allegations after a brief hospital visit. The award-winning actress who was perhaps one of the more iconic figures from the world of movies and films passed away in March 2011 aged 79 and even now there is still confusion as to whether she actually suffered from type 1 diabetes or not.
There are very few people alive today who have lived such an active life as Elizabeth Taylor and while her private life and her public life were very different she did experience heartache and joy in all areas. Her relationship with Richard Burton has been the subject of much speculation, much press comment and even a movie. To say that diabetes type I impacted the way in which Elizabeth Taylor lived her life would be untrue – she certainly knew how to enjoy herself.
